Gov't attempts to demonise disabled failing says DWP research

New research published today by the Department of Work and Pensions suggests that its own attempts demonise the disabled are failing. According to the research “Opinions and Lifestyle Survey” show that nearly 70% of the public feel there has been an improvement to attitudes towards the disabled since the London Paralympic Games of 2012. Minister for Disabled People Mike Penning said*:
“Since we came to office in 2010, we have made repeated attempts to label people with disabilities and long-term illnesses as scroungers; people who are on the take, who need to be have their welfare payments cut to incentivise them to get back to work. Unfortunately we have not been as successful as we’d hoped. London 2012 helped lead to a transformation in the representation of, and attitudes towards, disabled people in Britain.
