CUTS: Archbishop backs 27 bishops who blasted David Cameron's welfare cuts


He said church leaders were voicing the views of their congregations when they wrote to the Daily Mirror earlier this week

The Archbishop of Canterbury yesterday backed the 27 bishops who wrote to the Daily Mirror blasting welfare cuts which have caused a hunger crisis.

And Justin Welby piled pressure on the Prime Minister by declaring: "I'm entirely with them."

Deputy PM Nick Clegg yesterday tried to rubbish the bishops' claims by saying it was an "exaggeration" to say the Government had withdrawn the safety net for the most vulnerable.

But the Archbishop said church leaders are voicing the views of their congregations.
