Benefits Street: Charities Slam “Grossly Unbalanced” Channel 4 Show, Reinforcing “Harmful Stereotypes”

A coalition of charities have accused Channel 4 of perpetuating harmful stereotypes and causing “shame and distress” for millions of Britain’s benefit claimants, for broadcasting the highly controversial ‘Benefits Street’ documentary.

The charities also suggest that Channel 4 may have breached their legal remit which allows the broadcaster to “stimulate well-informed debate”.

A petition calling for the documentary to be scrapped has been signed by many thousands of people and Ofcom have received hundred of complaints.
